It’s no secret that I absolutely love linen. When I first finished grad school, got licensed as a pharmacist, and got my very first paycheck, the two things I was most excited to finally buy were a Miele vacuum and a set of real linen bed sheets. Some of my classmates were out buying brand-new cars or maybe designer handbags (obviously great as well!), but I was most excited about those linen sheets.

What I love About Linen
A Timeless, Natural Material
This is one of the main reasons that I love linen. Linen is made from flax and is actually one of the oldest textile fibers used by humans. I remember hearing somewhere that items made from natural materials (like real stone instead of tile, or linen instead of a synthetic fabric) tend to make your home look more timeless. Since we moved into our old farmhouse a few years ago, I’ve definitely found that to be true. The items I’ve bought that are made from natural materials blend more seamlessly with our old house and they actually look like they belong. These beautiful linen curtains from LinenDuet are no exception.
“Hygge Factor”
Hygge is the Danish art of creating a nice atmosphere. The natural look and feel of linen help to create a cozy atmosphere. I love pretty much everything about linen and I use it around the house any chance I get!

Durability and Longevity
You know the saying “buy nice or you’ll buy twice.” It’s worth the little extra expense upfront to have items that will last a lifetime, or you’ll end up paying more in the long run on replacing poor-quality products. Linen doesn’t wear out as fast as other materials, and it actually gets softer and more comfortable the more you use it and wash it. This is one of the main reasons linen is such a great material for bed sheets. If you’ve never slept on real linen sheets before, you are missing out! They keep you nice and cool in the summer, and also keep you cozy and warm in the winter. They also become softer and softer with each wash. Something interesting about linen sheets that I learned from LinenDuet’s website is that linen sheets eliminate static electricity, even if it’s just a linen blend!
What I Love About LinenDuet
As a mom of two daughters, I love that LinenDuet is a small business run by two sisters, Nadia and Yulia, who share a love of sewing. All of their items are ethically handmade in the USA with incredible attention to detail – Each of the items I’ve gotten from LinenDuet has been absolutely perfect! We love to support small businesses when we can, especially women-owned ones. Not only do they make many different styles and colors of custom curtains, but they also make clothing, table linens, bedding, and more.

Perfect Linen Curtains
When I made over the upstairs of our almost 200-year-old saltbox farmhouse, I knew I wanted sheer linen curtains. After hours of searching, I ended up finding the most perfect linen curtains from LinenDuet *chef’s kiss* They drape so nicely, and offer just the right amount of privacy while still letting in so much natural light. We added some of the same sheer linen curtains to our pantry and dining room as well, and they are simply beautiful!

I think that the pantry is probably my favorite room in our house – it’s tiny and narrow and quirky. The window gets the best morning sunlight, and the linen curtains from LinenDuet just add the perfect touch. I love styling the curtains like this, with one corner pinned up. I think it just looks so simple and charming. While I wish I could take credit for the idea, I copied my grandma (who we bought the house from). These curtains also look great layered with other curtains, like we have in our dining room.
The pantry and dining room curtains are LinenDuet’s sheer natural off-white curtains which they custom-made to a 50” by 72” size. I ordered them about 75% wider than the window to get the folds of the curtains to drape so beautifully. I added a small loop of thread to the corner of the pantry curtain myself and hooked it onto a nail partway up the window.

Linen Napkins
“My favorite table is the dinner table. The dinner table is a unifier, a place of community. It is where we connect. It is where we learn about the world, where our language is developed and where we reconnect with our loved ones.” (from My Hygge Home by Meik Wiking)

We have been making a point to eat together at the dinner table over the past few months, inspired by The Little Book of Hygge and My Hygge Home by Meik Wiking. We had been without a dining table for a while and had just been eating at the kitchen island. But a few months ago, we found a great little round table on Facebook marketplace and it’s been so nice! Our 3-year-old Evie helps to set the table every night, she gets so excited about it! At the end of a long day, we love to light some beeswax candles, turn on the record player and try to slow down and enjoy our dinner time together. These linen napkins from LinenDuet are the perfect finishing touch to make our family dinners a special experience every night.
